<Salute to Jesus‘ Birthday>

Part I

Oh Joseph, Joseph

Is it true what I am told?

That this newborn babe

Is worth more than gold?

I heard once you arrived in Bethlehem

Dear Mary went into labor

And since there was no room at the inns

In a stable was born our Savior

I cannot image how you must feel

As you look at his tiny face

To know he is the Holy One’s son

Must fill you with God’s loving grace

Just to know that while you raise him

He will be raising you

To know he would one day save our souls

And that he came to make all things new!

_____

Part II

Virgin Mary, Virgin Mary,

Is it true, is it true?

That the baby you are holding

Can save both me and you?

I heard it through the grapevine

From both the shepard and the wise men

That your child is the King of Kings

And can wash away my sin

He looks so very small

So fragile to my eye

It is amazing that someday he

For us, one day, will die.

Oh, Mother Mary, I love him so

May I talk to him and touch his hand?

I want only to bask in the presence

Of God, who is now with us on this land

____

Part III

Precious baby Jesus

Is it true what they all say?

That you are the son of God

And can show us all the way?

Are you really the one

That we all have been waiting for?

I am in awe that you have finally come

As I was beginning to think you lore

I know you are small right now

Just a humble baby boy

No one could know what you mean to me

How only you give my soul pure joy

Oh Savior, my King, Jesus Christ

I give you my life evermore

I know you can take my sin away

So we can be together on Heaven’s shore

_____

Part IV

To all who are lost and despairing:

Did you know there is a way?

His name is the Messiah!

And he was born on Christmas Day!

Did you know he loves us so much?

Much too much to comprehend?

He even gave his son for us

So that our souls he could mend

Once he became a child

Who grew so wise and strong

And at the age of thirty-three

He died to right our wrong

So let not your hearts be heavy

For God is the key to life

Without him we are not truly living

God is the hope within our strife.
