Poetry: Never stood a chance

by Crystal Leigh

Created on: December 22, 2009

I never stood a chance...

Perhaps it was our fate from the start.

One day we would be destined to part.

I can't understand what went wrong.

Why you left me after fifteen years strong.

As I go over the years in my mind.

Playing them through as if on rewind.

My eyes opened to what I could not see.

It's been many times that you have left me.

My love for you was not enough.

Even though I held on when things got rough.

You turned your head away so many times.

Yet back in my arms, you I would find.

This time it's different, you did more than flirt.

For that I can't ignore, my heart bleeds and hurts.

I thought you were different, forever true.

You doomed us from the beginning, my love, now unglued.

My heart with you, never stood a chance, now I see.

What you called love, was prison, and now I'm finally free.
