Exercise & pregnancy: Fitness advice for mothers-to-be

Having trouble conceiving? Constant flux in weight and diet may be to blame. Exercise helps reduce body fat, tone organs, and lift mood. So, wake the body up and to get back to baby making!

The ability to conceive demands a balanced lifestyle. After one year of trying to conceive, or 6 months for women over 35, infertility is stating its presence.

With an increased exercise routine, and a balanced diet, the body can attain regular cycles and an improved chance at conception.

Exercise boosts mood, and libido. Anyone with confidence and a strong, flexible body is more likely to want to share every bit of it. Increase strength and flexibility by taking long brisk walks, doing yoga or swimming. Sun Salutations, squats and lunges are simple exercises that engage muscles in the hips, booty and core, and increase metabolism. Six sun salutations, and three sets of thirty squats and lunges can fit into a half hour session. Combine this with a nice walk around the neighborhood, or dancing to a video countdown to get up to an hour of exercise a day. An extra hour of exercise a day will tone the body, fire the metabolic furnace, and enliven the day. As your body grows, swimming with a kickboard, upbeat walks on an elliptical machine and gentle yoga will continue to tone and support a growing body.

Like with exercise, doing something the same way every time gets the same result. Shake up passion in the bedroom and choose positions that will deliver semen close to the cervix. Missionary position is good but from behind is better. Keep the hips lifted after intercourse to give sperm extra time to swim. Enjoy intercourse more often to help regulate hormone production.

Use exercise to keep stress at bay- and indulgent foods that make losing weight a constant battle. All of the systems of the body are interconnected. Exercise regulates metabolism, digestion, immunity and hormone response. Pregnancy can be nerve wracking, and physically challenging- so approach getting fit as training for this endurance event.

Vitamin C, calcium, zinc, antioxidants and vitamin D help regulate the reproductive hormones. A diet rich in leafy greens, fruits, whole grains, nuts and berries will regulate hormone levels in the body by cleansing its systems.

High body fat is just as detrimental to fertility as a body that is too lean. So, rebuild the body from the inside out with whole foods and a committed workout that supports positive self-image, and future goals.
