Helium strives to present many different types of information and many different genres of writing on one website. There are certain characteristics that make some articles on Helium easier to read than others. The spacing of an article, the way that headings and subheadings are used within the article, and proper grammar and spelling are three of the characteristics of easy to read Helium articles.
Spacing
The spacing of paragraphs in the articles that are written for Helium allows readers to skim and to pick out the important pieces without having to dig through the whole article for it. Internet users, especially those that are trolling for specific information, are used to having the information presented to them in short, easy to digest formats. Helium, as a writer's community, is set up for longer articles with more developed information. Paragraph breaks that are properly used make Helium articles as easy to read as any other article on the internet while allowing the article to be well developed with much information.
Headings
Paragraph headings are just as important as spacing for making articles easily understood and are especially helpful to those internet users who are just skimming for information. Good headings are only one or two words that sum up the important points of each particular paragraph. Articles that use numbers, letters, or capitalization to make each heading stand out are much easier to skim for the right information.
Grammar and Spelling
People who are looking for information on Helium expect that the articles have proper English grammar and spelling. If a reader has to spend time figuring out what the writer is intending to say, or what a misspelled word is, it detracts from their experience not only with the article, but with Helium as a whole. Articles that use proper English grammar and have no misspelled words are the easiest articles to read.
Helium articles that incorporate these three characteristics are easy to read. Internet users are looking for a particular type of writing that is non-traditional in many ways. Easy to read articles means that people are able to find the information that they are looking for very quickly, but are able to also enjoy reading the article at the same time. The internet is changing the way people read and write, and Helium is successful is because it combines the traditional, more developed forms of article writing with the new, Internet-friendly format.
