A quiet cottage sits untouched deep in a quaint forest miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is hidden from the view of modern society, but the brave adventurer who does stumble upon it every few years is enraptured by its simplicity and unhurriedness.
There is an air of sweet comfort that seems to envelope anyone who walks through the doors of this humble abode; I call this little slice of heaven home. A haven unspoiled by man, handcrafted by God’s hand. Every morning, I awake to the radiant sunrise as it pours through the bay windows, splashing beautiful arrays of color across the oaken floors.
There is nothing more peaceful than watching a glorious sunrise peeking through the windows as I lazily welcome the morning. In this haven I have found rest and nothing can spoil the natural beauty of my refuge. Quietly I tiptoe through the halls, so as not to break the morning's enchanting spell of sheer quietness. The only noise that breaks the stillness of the awakening dawn is that of the twittering birds and chipmunks scurrying through the evergreens.
I grab my steaming mug of coffee and venture out onto the expansive porch to read for a bit. As I become lost in the pages of my book, I soak up the distinct sounds around me; the forest is now beginning to come alive. There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh evergreen evading my senses. The music of nature lulls me into oblivion and when I next awaken, the wooden porch swing is swaying me with the balmy breeze as the afternoon sun lazily laps against the lake's edge, sending glittering sparkles in every direction.
My eyes reflect the captivating beauty that unfolds before me: the dew-covered grass sprinkling fairy dust through the lawn, chipmunks scurrying about, and the bashful doe dashing through the wooded expanse. Without a moment's notice, I hear a small child's feet pitter pattering along the deck, then a yelp as he splashes into the crystal blue water. The laughter that erupts as he surfaces evokes a feeling of pure joy, that overwhelming warmth that unwittingly overtakes a person.
I join him at the shoreline and relax as the sun smiles down on my face and the lake beckons me in with its teasing ways. As I timidly move into the rippling waters, I am immersed in peace and contentment; this is the life. A life filled with peace, bliss, and beauty.
