Across the Table
Across the sea of gravy,
and over the turkey mountain,
through the buttered beans
and around the root-beer float:
is where your journey begins.
Withstand the march of okra,
battle potatoes baked and mashed.
Brave the raving broccoli
and swim past chicken soup:
and that's where your journey ends.
So, pass the salad-
if you could.
