Are you Haunted by the Bing Toolbar? Do you want it gone so you can have your internet browser the way you want it? Well, I'm here to say that it's easier than you think.
Let's think about what Bing is exactly. If you go into your Control panel and try to find it you will not. That's because it's not there. It's not even a program. Bing is an add-on search utility. For IE users it will become the default search engine and for Firefox users it will also remove the ability to automatically go to the site you want when you type in the name.
For Firefox the fix is easy and takes 2 steps.
1. Removing the add-on.
a. Click Tools>>Add-ons and a window should pop up.
b. Click extensions and find the Bing toolbar. To the right there should be the options Disable, and Uninstall.
c. Click uninstall and then Ok to restart Firefox.
2. Getting back your Auto-search.
a. Go to your address bar and type, "about:config" (no Quotations) and hit enter.
b. A warning that says, "This may void your warranty pops up" it's nothing to worry about so click, "I'll be careful I promise."
c. Now you need to be careful. Affecting this menu affects all of Firefox in different ways.
d. In the filter box that comes up type, "keyword.URL" (no Quotations).
e. Underneath the Filter box you should find the words, "Keyword.URL" Double click them.
f. A small window should pop up in which there is some highlighted text. Hit delete and then paste this inside:
http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Luck y&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
g. Click okay and you should be done.
For IE users pretty much the same.
1. Click Tools>>Manage Add-ons>>Search providers and remove the Bing option. However you can't do that if it's your only search provider so you may have to get a new one.
2. install the Google toolbar and then make Google the default search in the search provider window.
3. Remove the Bing toolbar and then the Google toolbar and your done.
Enjoy your Bing-free Browser.
