Poetry: Keep smiling

by Jane Smith

Created on: December 20, 2009

SMILE

If I decide at last to smile

Please don't call me false

Don't put me on a trial

It takes a little while.

It takes a while to fit

My spirit to my face

It takes a little bit

Of Grace

For me to find my place.

I'm used to looking back

Looking to the past

But that makes my sorrow last

It keeps me off the track

I need to look ahead

To what my life could be

Once I give a little love

Once I give the best of me.

So my smile might seem to slip

Around when first I try

But don't call me false and quit

The scene before I fly

Because I really do believe

And I might be wrong

Or right

That a smile of hope is worth

The struggle of its birth

For the shining of its light.
