When and how to start building your Internet presence

by Tony Balthazar

Establishing yourself as an Internet presence will help your online business succeed in a way that you may never have thought possible. Some may think that this process is much easier said than done, but there are many different and effective ways to learn when and how to start building your Internet presence. Use what works for you, and learn from others who have established their presence online to begin teaching others the same thing.

For starters, when you build your homepage, you are creating the first spark of your Internet presence. Anyone who visits your website fans the flames of this spark, but it will not develop into a growing fire without some serious dedication. Your Internet presence is more than just building the website, it is maintaining, updating, streamlining, and managing the website as needed, just for starters.

One of the most important tools that you can use to build your Internet presence is a professional blog. The point of the blog is to drive more traffic to your website and generate sales (or however your website makes money). If you use pay-per-click to make money, drive the audience that would be interested in the affiliates that you have chosen to market with/through. A blog should include relevant information, and always check your spelling and grammar for errors. Even a personal blog can be helpful in this regard.

Make sure that the blog is your input, not someone else’s. Use your unique vision, drive, and personality to develop what is truly your presence. If someone else is writing the blog, you are developing that writer’s presence, even if it has your name on it. Above all, make certain that the blog exists on an entirely different site. Use links to join the two, but do not use your business website to host your blog; this looks very unprofessional and amateurish.

There are many different websites that can be used to host a blog, including article submission sites, personal networking sites, and affiliated marketing hosts. There are dozens of effective tools simply waiting to be used, and the vast majority are free to users. Some premium content may cost money, but most of these tools and services are designed for higher end users anyway, so they will not be necessary at the outset.

It cannot be stressed enough that the point is to develop a positive Internet presence, not a negative presence that people will associate with bad news or scams. Keep this in mind as you create your blog, or use article submission websites to begin to establish your presence. Do not misrepresent your product, tool, or service. Be honest, without giving away every flaw that could be present. Use common sense to say what needs to be said, and your presence will be established firmly.
