Analysis of how to write an article

by Ruth Belena

Created on: December 19, 2009

It is possible to write a well balanced article every time, when you have some insight into the writing process. Analysis of how to write an article can help to identify important stages and elements in article writing. You can be more constructive and productive in your article writing as a result of this analysis.

1 - Find ideas on what to write.

You might be instructed by your client exactly what to write, or you could be asked to write to a specific title. In either case you will need ideas on what approach to take to the topic and how you are going to write on it.

When you have to think up ideas of your own, or you are told you can write anything on a particular subject, you should list ideas for articles based around that subject. If you want to write about "diamonds", you can decide to focus on the history of diamonds. An alternative topic could be selected from a list of ideas about how real diamonds are formed, the difference between man made diamonds and naturally occurring diamonds, how man made diamonds are created, how to choose a diamond, where to buy diamond jewelry, the value of diamonds. You can write many articles by sticking to one topic per article.

2 - Consider writing style and format.

The writing style and format of an article will depend on where it is to be published and the type of article. A print publication will require a different style of article to website content. A printed article can be a feature that is required to attract businesses to advertise alongside the article ih that magazine. An article written for the Internet should use keywords for search engine optimization, and has to be set out so it is easy to read on a screen.

The article title will decide whether you write a "how-to" guide, if you should include a list of tips or you should write an overview. An article should never be written from a personal point of view, unless you are instructed to write an opinion piece or write from personal recollection. Keep "me" out of it. You can share your knowledge or experience without needing to explain that is how "I" did it.

3 - Decide on content

A history or a science article will require careful research and the content will be based on information from reliable sources. Spend time researching and gather information before you begin to write.

4 - Plan the article.

Make a brief plan of the points you intend to cover. Cite sources of information from
