Out of all the writing opportunities that Helium has to offer, Marketplace currently offers the greatest upfront earnings potential. Marketplace publishers pay Helium writers anywhere from $16 to $200 per piece of original content. The competitive nature of Helium’s Marketplace can intimidate some writers, but there is a lot of money to be made for those who are willing to give it a try. You don’t have to be a professional writer in order to have your work selected by Marketplace publishers; just follow this guide to success in Helium’s Marketplace and your sales are sure to increase quickly.
* Just do it. The hardest part about writing for Helium’s Marketplace is simply getting started and overcoming your fear of rejection as a writer. After a few submissions, most Helium members find that competing in the Marketplace is a fun and addicting challenge. Waiting for those sales confirmation emails and watching your Marketplace sales badge number grow can be compared to Christmas morning for many Helium writers.
* Follow directions. Publishers who post titles on Marketplace are looking for very specific content to meet their individual needs. Typically, publishers post detailed guidelines for each title, which include preferred style, tone, content and word count. They may also specify what sort of sources they would like used and how they would like them cited. You could write an amazing article, but if you go over the word count or ignore the preferred style, it is not going to be purchased. Follow guidelines as closely as possible and refer back to them frequently as you write your article. Not only does this process help you sell more articles in Marketplace, but it’s great practice for working with editors and publishers in other writing arenas as well.
* Be original. Marketplace publishers are looking for original, never-before-seen content from Helium members. This is why they are willing to pay the big bucks for your articles. Obviously, plagiarizing someone else’s work is always a big no-no, but including even bits and pieces of your own previously published articles is frowned upon in Helium’s Marketplace. If any part of your Marketplace submission is found to be unoriginal, it is taken out of the competition and multiple offenses can result in disciplinary action, such as the deletion of your Helium account.
* Check your work. Helium writers are always encouraged to proofread their submissions for proper grammar
