Last Note to a Song

Every love story has an ending

How do we end ours?

It was short it was brief

Taught me a lot about myself

Showed me life isn't just what

We expect it to be, but what we expect from it

I know how to live and not be afraid of dying

My heart can be broken it can also heal

Weakness isn't a defect

The opposite of it is strength

How do we end a love story?

With dignity and grace

I didn't know what I was going to say to him.  I rehearsed a speech, but when I came face to face with him, all thoughts went out the

window.  I waited for him to close the club. I didn't want to have this conversation with him in his home, leaving him with bad memories of

me everywhere he turned.

He came over to the table with two drinks. I hadn't seen him in awhile, he looked good.  We talked on the phone, almost every day; he

understood why I was keeping my distance.

"You're looking like a woman with a lot on her mind."  He had no idea.

"How have you been?" He gave me that devilish grin.

"Missing the hell out of you." This was going to be a lot harder than I thought.

"I've missed you as well."

"That's not the reason you're here." Was it that obvious? I cleared my throat.

"Let me make this easy for you Ferrell.  You've come to tell me you're going back to your husband and that you never meant to hurt me.

You'll always love me and you know I'll find the right woman out there, because she is out there just waiting for me.  How am I doing so

far?" he didn't look angry or hurt, he actually appeared amused, which kind of made me mad.

"Well, I guess there is no need for me to say a damn thing, you seemed to have me all figured out."  I stood up to leave.  Matthew grabbed

my arm to prevent me from leaving.

"I was only trying to make an unpleasant situation less

painful.  If I came off sounding facetious, I apologize.  Sat

back down, please." Reluctantly I sat back down.

"This isn't easy for me Matt.  I never wanted to hurt you."

"You didn't hurt me Ferrell.  Ok, I'm a little bruised, but I knew what I was getting myself into.  I didn't go into this blind.  I said from the

beginning, I wanted you without the ghost of David coming between us and he would have.  I hoped of course you'd fall madly in love with

me and forget he ever existed.  You have children together, so that's a bit unrealistic. There's no way you'd forget about
