The benefits of green tea for weight loss

Researching the benefits of green tea consumption for weight loss online will lead to lots of great sites and interesting reading material. But the best part of this endeavor is discovering all the ways that drinking tea is beneficial to your health.


The idea that doing nothing but drinking 3 to 6 cups of green tea a day will result in an annual weight loss of six to eight pounds is exciting. That is a significant amount of weight to lose every year no matter what your personal weight loss goal.


One very interesting piece of green tea trivia regards triglycerides and obesity. Green tea is reported to burn foods that turn into fat and sugar and then become what we call triglycerides in the liver. Triglycerides are an important source of energy but when in excessive amounts can be a contributing cause of obesity.


According to almost all the sites online, the polyphenols found in green tea help dissolve excess triglycerides. Green tea also contains an antioxidant called catechin polyphenols which has been found to burn fat through stimulating metabolism.


The caffeine in green tea stimulates the central nervous system and releases fat into the blood stream to be burned as fat. And it increases energy and helps build endurance allowing you to exercise longer and thus burn more fat.


Several studies are cited on www.greenweightlosstea.com and one was an interesting lab test on mice. After 15 weeks the group taking only green tea extract had lost 47% of their excess weight and the group taking the green tea plus exercise had lost 89% of their accumulated weight.


Another study on 38 Japanese men showed that the group that received 690 mg of catechin antioxidants per day had significantly reduced their BMI and body weight over the control group.


Studies by Dulloo and Rumpler used a state of the art metabolic chamber to analyze the energy used by participants over a 24 hour period. The results showed that green tea consumption increases metabolism by 2.9% to 4% and fat burning by 12% to 35%.


Drinking green tea and or taking a green tea supplement appears to be a safe and effective way to assist in losing weight.
