I had met Andy through the singles club called “Great Expectations”. I had been part of this singles club for two years and nothing had transpired. It was a great confidence builder, as it gave me the best opportunity to meet quality professionals in my area.
After two years, I was tired of meeting nice guys who were serial daters. It seemed like most of them had been part of this singles club for at least five to ten years and had no desire to be truly committed.
Most of them did not believe in marriage. They would ask me if I was a “90’s” type of woman, meaning having relationships and maybe living with someone almost indefinitely. It was so discouraging. Not only that, but when I was asked out on a date, they almost always slid the bill over to me as they expected me to pay half. What happened to the men from the 60’s that opened the door for a lady and also paid for dinner if they asked you out on a date?
Well after two years I decided that I had had enough of these men, and I was going to Colorado to find me a meat and potato man. I was a month away from moving when I received the card from GE that said” Someone wants to meet you”. The thought of meeting another serial dater left me disheartened.
So I went to the center, looked him up. His profile was sort of perfect for me, he was a widower who loved to dance, travel , go to movies, etc. His profile also mentioned something about a “bus”, so I assumed that he was a retired Greyhound bus driver. Well, I was just not interested but decided to have coffee with him so that he did not feel any rejection. Just being nice, after all, I was going to find me a meat and potato man in Colorado.
We met the following day for coffee at a diner. He was tall and was so very nice. I ordered a muffin and coffee, when the bill came he took it. I offered to pay my half, he looked at me and said” Oh no, are you one of those “90’s type of women?” When I take you out I pay for everything! He had this attitude about him that commanded respect. After coffee he walked me to my office and asked me out to dinner at a French restaurant the following day. I accepted. That was interesting, what happened to Colorado?
Dinner at the French restaurant was wonderful. We talked a lot and
