The Nashville Zoo at Grassmere sits on over 300 acres of land that also serves as a planetarium. A day at the zoo will put a smile on the face of everyone in the family as you view over 300 rare and exotic animals from around the world, including mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish.
You will also encounter pandas, tigers, elephants and more. Take a ride on the elephants, and don't forget to have a photo made! You can bring your own camera, or purchase one from the elephant keepers.
Be sure to tour the Unseen New World. Inside you will find fish, frogs, snakes, spiders and more. The Poison Arrow Frog is rare, and a must see.
Also inside the zoo you will find Alligator Cove, home to dozens of huge alligators sure to send chills up your spine! The Loorikeet Landing is an interactive exhibit that will have you surrounded by over 50 rare Australian parakeets.
Children could spend the entire day playing at the Jungle Gym. This is the largest community built playground in America, and offers 60,000 square feet of play that includes slides, swinging, climbing and more.
Another exciting zoo event for children is the Petting Farm. Spend time petting and feeding all of the animals you'll find hanging around the farm - goats, ducks and more.
An adult admission will cost $14, while children 2 and under are free, and kids 2 to 12 years old cost $12. For a family of four, admission alone can be a bit costly. There are group rates and discounts you may be eligible to receive.
Eat before you go to the zoo. There are several options for dining, however, they are all a bit on the expensive side, and the food is not all that good. Bringing your own stroller is also a good idea, as renting one would set you back $7.
Every day you will find something new and exciting taking place at the zoo. Take a ride on a giraffe on the carousel, learn about your favorite animals during an animal show, and many other special activities, including holiday events.
It can get a bit expensive to go to the zoo, but it will be money well spent. There are enough things to see and do the day will be gone before you know it. And it's a lot of fun!
