When you hear the words “it’s the thought that counts”, you messed up. Your girlfriend is now trying to reduce the damage by lovingly coddling whatever awful present you must have bought her. Unless the man in question is gay, a family member, or has been dating this girl for a very long time and knows every single little detail, he would have very little clue as to what to get her. Here is a short list of what NOT to get for your girlfriend in descending order.

10. Flowers and candy

Women don’t want flowers and candy as a present during winter it is insulting! The reason why the flower and candy gifts are so famous are because it is the first present a girl receives when they begin dating someone (or at least that is how things were in the past). Also, what if you decided to buy her a unique flower bunch and she ended up being allergic to them? Not a good present for you to land her in the Emergency Room.

9. Christmas Recipe Books

Women adore the chance to cook and are secretly in love with the idea of pleasing their significant others with their marvelous cooking. The chances your girlfriend can cook is high so if you gave her a recipe book, she might already have that recipe book or feel like her current cooking is not good enough for you. Personally a cook book is a clear way of asking your girlfriend to try and make you something you always wanted to try, but could never really ask that of her. And so the lack of communication translates shortly to “Hun, your chocolate cake and eggnog suck, why don’t we try using the recipes from this book?”

8. Gift Cards

Gift cards are the latest trend in presents these days. Everyone is giving their loved ones the greatest gift: money to do their own shopping. This gift idea can be such a sleazy move. Not only does it take the risks out of giving her a present that she will not love, but gives her a chance to go shopping with whatever amount you have given her. Most women would love the idea of having the chance to pick whatever she wanted as a present, but then there are those traditional little ladies that want sentimental gifts or gifts that are meaningful and memorable.

7.  Make Up

You saw your girlfriend wearing makeup a few times or all the time and think “wow”. Your girlfriend along with half the women on this planet has a specific brand of makeup that she uses, so unless you know what they are, do not try to buy her make up. You will be wasting
