Escape is a great word when associated with reading. Reading is escapism.
To escape you have to be reading a book that has captured your imagination, once this has happened you will have no problem escaping from your life and its routines, stresses, worries, boredom for however long you wish to spirit yourself away from reality for. Once you have found a book that you think you might like you won't want to put it down. You should know within reading the first couple of pages whether you like the book or not, if you don't, stop reading it and find another one.
Reading is great for stimulating your mind and imagination. Finding the time to set aside can be hard but if you can find 'me' time everyday, maybe this is when you go to bed, a great time to wind down and end the day doing something for you! You might not want to read horror or thrillers at bedtimes though.
As you read you will find that you totally leave your life behind and you will become more and more engrossed as you become part of the authors fictional or factual writings, in which you become privy to the books characters and their surroundings. Reading opens up another world. I can only liken it to having a movie running inside your head where you visualize and interpret what you are seeing in print before you.
Getting to know characters and being able to sympathise or relate to them and their situations can maybe help to view things in a different light in your own life, or may have nothing whatsoever in common with your life. A good book is able to surprise and keep you guessing as to what is going to happen next. If you are a night time reader you wil go to sleep relaxed and contented and will look forward to your next bedtime reading session!
If you have ever read a book to a child you will see the enjoyment in their face as they hang on to every word in anticipation, and they won't want you stop. You will be inadvertently teaching them too that they can escape in a good book and they will hopefully take this with them as they grow up.
