This once very traditional and extremely important Christian celebration has been turned into a shopping frenzie that insults what the day was set aside for; to be thankful to God for sending his beautiful Son to save these exact ones who take this cherished day for granted.
It just amazes me how so many peope define Christmas in so many different ways when it only has ONE true meaning. It isn't just a "season of the heart", it isn't a time to overload children with toys and adults with various presents and it doesn't have "many different meanings". Christmas has only one meaning or I should say one intended meaning and that is celebrating the birth of CHRIST. I cannot believe the people who define it any other way than what it actually is....Christ the SAVIORS celebrated date of birth. No, He may not have been born on the exact day of December 25th, but it is the designated day of His birthday and a Christian celebration of the birth of their Savior. This very special day has become so over commercialized that many children today have no idea what Christmas is really all about other than opening presents and parents spending lots of hard earned money.
There is certainly nothing wrong with the traditional decorations and exchange of gifts; and of course Santa Claus for the youngsters but for heavens sake, if you are going to celebrate Christmas then make sure your children know what the meaning of the day truly is. And if you don't believe in Christ then do not celebrate the holiday! That is just being hypricitcal and sending the wrong message to your little ones who should have the right to learn what the day is all about when they are old enough to choose their own beliefs. If you celebrate Christmas and don't believe in it's meaning, then that would be practicing double-standards wouldn't it? I've seen people get so offended because a department store had a Merry Christmas sign up yet their in there fighting for the same new toy to buy for their kid too. People who celebrate Christmas as anything other than what it is are projecting themselves as saying "well, we don't believe in Jesus but we'll take advantage of all the perks His birthday celebration brings anyway."
Christmas is over-comercialized and under-appreciated. JESUS WAS BORN ON THIS DAY! Celebrate it for what it is or don't celebrate it at all!
