New Year and a fresh look at life

Tonight is Tuesday, December 15, 2009.  I don't know if anyone noticed the calendar lately, but for 2009, December has a second full moon (aka - a "Blue Moon") and interestingly enough, it lands on New Year’s Eve/Day.  I didn't really research the Wiccan point-of-view regarding this, so I'm not sure if others are making as big a deal about this as I think it should be, but tonight I was inspired.

Since tomorrow is the last new moon before this event, I decided to start a ritual cleansing of myself, my room, and my life.  I envisioned myself banishing all the negativity from the past decade so that I may be open to the positive.  I made a vow to myself to become more stable in mind, body, spirit and finances.  As the New Moon is the perfect time for banishing, I "smudged" my room with a Sage Smudge stick to remove bad energy and I opened the window to send it out.  This ritual I will complete tomorrow so that when the moon begins to wax (when the moon changes from new to full) I can draw good energy to me.  Ironically, Thursday is the day I sign papers with my lawyer regarding my bankruptcy.  This is a good step for me in the cleansing, as it starts me on a new slate.  Everything else I do until New Year's will be to draw good luck, fortune, and health towards me and my family.

I don't know if any other Wiccans or Earth-based believers will be doing the same kind of thing, but I wouldn't be surprised.  This year is definitely a time to put out the garbage and rebuild from the ground up... not just ourselves, but those around us as well.  First and foremost, we have a new president whom I, personally, have high hopes for in the rebuilding of our country and economy (despite the mess he was left with.  In my own life, the circumstances are just right for a new beginning.  The doctor's office I work for recently joined a corporation.  Not only did everyone get better benefits and raises, but our particular practice also acquired a brand new building with completely new furniture to replace the moldy, falling-apart building we were previously in.  My relatives that were living with us in my grandfather's house - that never worked or contributed to the house in anyway (aka "leaches") moved out.  This brought a few things - I got a bigger room and have more space to be my creative self, my sister got her own room, we got a new dog that loves to be loved (and helps our other
