Can you imagine a big pond on the outskirts of a small town, a hot sultry moonlit night with two young restless couples looking for a little excitement? Jewel Can.
Jewel was one of the young girls who along with her best friend, Margaret, were out on a double date. There was one problem which became more evident as the evening wore on. Both young men were interested in Jewel. As far as Jewel was concerned she was definitely more attracted to Jack, who was with Margaret, than she was her own date, Willard. It made for an interesting evening. If Margaret suspected anything amiss, she never let on.
Everyone appeared to be having a good time but as small towns usually do, this small town rolled up the sidewalks at a relatively early hour and our young friends could think of nothing to do but drive out to the pond and park for awhile. Things were getting a little boring when Jack suggested they try to liven things up by switching dates for awhile. This excited everybody except Willard, Jewels date. He was adamant about keeping his date to himself.
There was a heated discussion between the two boys which quickly escalated, resulting in the threat of fisticuffs. Jewell began to cry thinking the whole evening was ruined. She was disappointed and suggested they all just go home. But Jack came to the rescue by offering to walk Jewell around the pond just to settle her down a bit. Oddly enough, the other two agreed to this and off they went.
They walked until the car was out of sight then sat down on the side of the pond. They began to talk but soon lapsed into an expectant silence. He began to confess to her that he had only come on the date because he was attracted to her; he slowly put his arms around her, drew her to him and began-the kiss.
Weeks later, Jewel was visiting her friend Margaret when the conversation turned to kisses. Jewell began talking about her experiences. She said “I have had a few boyfriends who were good kissers but the best kiss I ever had was out by the pond” her voice began to trail off as she realized she had just spilled the beans on herself. She just admitted to making out with her best friends date! She was horrified and for a moment she knew she had lost her friend. Suddenly the awkward silence was broken by the sound of Margaret’s laughter. Jewel was so relieved to know a kiss hadn’t ruined her friendship at all. However, one stolen kiss on a hot summer night still remains one of Jewels fondest memories.
