Poetry: Defining God

Always a presence never denied

Never questioned, there by my side

Invisible but a powerful force

Introduced and explained to me by one course

Of Faith; Church was always my favourite place

Throughout childhood, devout in my faith

The Christian God, the only God in my ignorance

I never realised there could be another stance

Other faiths; all worshiping God apart

From the rest. That’s when I did start

To question, consider, contemplate, meditate

Who was my God? To which did I relate?

The answer I have no doubt about

In God I trust; I am never without

His support and guidance. My God is your God, is their God too

As I believe all faiths are an assortment of paths leading to

The one God. He won’t turn millions away

Because from the “specified” path they did stray

Each path winds to the same destination

In their own way, all who search will find Him

Follow your conscience; follow your heart

Love they neighbour; love the Lord thy God

The Christian teaching makes so much sense to me

But questions hang over its history

Other faiths too have so much to offer and share

A fascinating journey finding a God who’s always there
