Comets spark intensely into a dark sky of immense magnificence.

Exploding fireballs through a unpredictable atmosphere

Cause a stillness of calm comfort and mild bewilderment

To entertain the onlooker bundled up for the evening to relentlessly peer.

Too large for one human to ever grasp, we can simply only envision

The possibilities of what could exist in the unknown expanse of out there.

In a world of weightless possibility and unknown division

I believe, as colors, stripes and blazes of light strike by through the air.

Cold fingers bury deep in a mitt and hats get pulled down low,

The coffee is not warm anymore and our seats have grown cold.

As patiently we remain in anticipation of the year’s upcoming show

Like sparks from a fire the galaxy erupts with traces of material new and old.

As a late night turns to early morning and watchers begin to ware

Hundreds and thousands of brilliant blips of colors fly through the sky.    

The beautiful shower of meteors and spatial debris throws its final spare

And as morning breaks on the distant horizon, until next year we must say goodbye.
