The difference between experiencing truth and knowing facts

Learning facts and actually experiencing truths are actually quite different. People tend to base many things on facts that they have not even see yet or will never see and yet others tend to believe these people maybe because of their high smarts or even old age. It is a process everyone goes through and many people base so many events on facts stating "yes well this happened at this time and this happened in this era". Of course if it was too far back they wouldn't have seen it but even people experiencing the era where the event took on maybe even haven't seen it.

Let's use an example. A Vietnam war vet is telling a younger generation individual about how they were involved in the Green Berets and saw all that happened during the bombings in Operation Rolling Thunder. And let's say a person of equal age tells the same tale but what not involved in the military, they just base it on television productions and newscasts. And now let's say a person who is quite younger than both of these people but know much about the war and is basically a walking encyclopedia on the subject, who would you pick to tell you about the situation?

Many people would pick the veteran since he has experienced it first hand and he witnessed the truth of what was happening. Hearing his story would be very inspiring and pike a certain interest about how they truly were there and its just so motivating someone was actually there. Although hearing the other two would be beneficial as well, this just shows that experience the truth first hand has a better effect on the storyteller than ones who just know the facts and indulged their selves in books and programs about the topic. This goes with almost anything in our world. There are people who only look into the facts and do not wish to witness it first hand, of course it is fine and dandy but sometimes knowing the exact truth can be better.

Let's say someone wants to work somewhere they feel they will be passionate at but only seen the atmosphere in movies and the like and that is the only reason they want to join up. When they see the reality it isn't as what they expected, its because they actually based it on fiction, and basing it on facts could improve their thought on it much better before they experience the real truth.
