Commonsense tips: Weight loss

I used to weigh 230 pounds. Like most people it was something that crept up on me very gradually. I finally realized after looking at old and recent photos that I had ballooned. It made sense though. My eating habits were horrendous. More than half of my grocery budget was junk food, and I'd go through it within a week or two. I would eat at fast food restaurants regularly, and pizza was a staple dinner. I drank tons and tons of pop everyday. Sometimes If I wanted to stay up late I would go binge on a dozen donuts and energy drinks. You get the point. I had to lose my weight and lose it for good. Over the course of a year I lost 46 pounds, and have continued to keep the weight off. What I am going to tell you will not please you in the slightest, but it's commonsense and in my opinion the only way to do it.

1. Dieting Doesn't Work

If I learned anything from my dad, it was that dieting doesn't work. He has done every diet under the sun. Some of them worked for awhile, but he'd always gain the weight back. All it did was discourage him. He gained even more weight than ever before. This is commonsense that everyone knows is true, but no one wants to believe. I realized that the only way I'm going to keep the weight off is by doing something different than merely dieting for a short period of time. I had to radically change my eating habits. The fact of the matter was that my eating habits were bad, and the only way to lose weight was to change that. Otherwise, dieting would be a band-aid solution toa mammoth of a problem. Don't buy into the dieting schemes.

2. Gradual Discipline

I realized that since I had gradually gained so much weight then only reasonable thing to do would be to gradually get the weight off. If I went cold turkey I'd burn out in a week. I knew that. I also knew that my eating discipline was terrible. There was no way I could lie to myself by thinking I had strong enough discipline to completely change my eating habits overnight. Everything had to be gradual. The bottom line here is that discipline comes in time, and it is absolutely vital to keep the weight off. If you don't force your mind to discipline yourself over a long period of time then it won't work. You obviously can't force your mind overnight, unless your a discipline master, so it only makes sense to discipline your mind over a long period of time until your eating habits become common place. This is the hardest part, but it's necessary to better eating habits, which means less
