As a woman, I can relate to this topic. In today's world we women can be quite unsafe while we are driving. No matter how new your car is. there can be problems while we are driving, we can breakdown anytime or we can have a puncture at anytime. Being a woman, this puts us at a disadvantage from men that would take advantage of a damsel in distress.
You would think that you would be safe in the daylight hours when you breakdown or when you have a puncture; after all we would pull over and there would be many cars going past us that would help. If only that was true, only a couple of years ago a young woman was abducted from her car only to be found raped and murdered a few days later. This was done in broad daylight as other motorists drove past while she was being abducted.
Personal safety is very important for everyone in today’s world no more so than a woman. How can we give ourselves the advantage over wicked men?
We live in a high tech age. Most of us will have a cell phone, if you have not yet bought on then I would advise you to buy one now. The advantage of a cell phone is that you do not have to get out of your car at any time if you break down, you can from the safety of your car make a phone call to get a breakdown truck to come and tow you away. One other thing about cell phones is that while they are turned on the authorities can track you; they can pinpoint you to a few yards. So if you have one then turn it on before you set out and keep it on your person at all times.
Never give a lift to any stranger even if it is a person of your own sex, women can be bad too. Keep your doors and windows locked at all times when you are driving in towns or cities. Keep your personal items like handbags hidden, do not leave them on your passenger seat in view for all and sundry to see.
Breakdown cover is a good thing to have, this means that you do not have to get out of your car to mend that puncture yourself, a quick phone call, and help will be with you within the hour.
If when you break down or have a problem, look out for a police patrol car. If you feel unsafe flag them down, they would rather stay with you until help arrives than to search for your raped and murdered body.
Staying safe is your responsibility, no-one else's and all it need is a little common sense in the matter.
