When writing content for your website the most important consideration most people in the marketing sector will focus on is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). The problem is a lot of people don’t understand exactly what is required to make sure that the content they write is optimized for the best possible results in search engines. So let’s look at some of the most common methods to incorporate into your writing for SEO friendly content.

Target Low Competition Key Words – To rank well in search engine results with relative ease your key word research is going to be extremely important. You want to find a key word phrase with a relatively large amount of searches for the niche you are competing in. That being said you also want this keyword to be low competition, meaning that the top few competitors in Google for that result are beatable.

If the top few results are sites like Wikipedia and more than one Ezine Article it may well be worth avoiding this keyword unless the search volume is great enough that you feel you can profit being ranked below these well know pages.

To conduct your keyword research for free simply search the Google Keyword Tool to see the number of searches for any given key word and use Google Search to find out who your competition for each key word is.

Main Keyword in Title – Once you have done your keyword research you need to decide the main keyword you want to target, this should be 2-3 words in length. Search Engines will treat certain content on your page as more important than others and your title is one of those things. Your chosen main keyword should be included in your title as naturally as possible. In doing this you show the search engines that this keyword is what your content is about.

Keyword Density 1-3% - Keyword density is the number of times your keyword appears for every 100 words in your content. This is another factor that search engines take into consideration quite heavily however they also can identify an unnaturally large keyword density and you can be penalized for this occurring. For this reason it is suggested that for optimal search results you keep your keyword density between 1 and 3%.

Target Long Tail Key Words – As well as your main keyword you are targeting it is a good idea to target a few long tail keywords. A long tail key word is a phrase of 4 words or more and they are often far less heavily contested. By targeting two or three of these long tail key words you
