How to choose wedding colors

by Melissa R. Bickel

When it comes to choosing the colors for your wedding, it's as personal as choosing your wedding dress. However it's good to know what colors are more readily available during different times of the year, so you can coordinate all your wedding accessories from the dress colors down to the wedding cake.

Knowing these colors will help in having that "WOW" effect on your wedding day. Your choices will add the ambiance which sets the tone for your whole wedding day. So whether your colors will be a favorite or based on season, be sure you love them.

If you base your wedding colors on "Spring", then these are appropriate for that occasion:

Pink

Cream

Lilac

Sky Blue

Mint Green

Soft Silver Tones

If "Summer" seems to be the season of your wedding date, then consider these choices:

Mid Purples

Rich Peaches

Ice Whites

Baby Yellows

Pale Blues

For some "Fall" is a choice for a wedding because the colors tend to be more vibrant and have that "Ah Effect":

Warm Burgundies

Deep Reds

Copper

Olive Green

Dark Pink

"Winter" weddings tend to lean towards the coolness of the season and feel, so these colors may be appropriate for that occasion:

Frosty Cream or White

Ivory to Pale Cream

Silvery Greys

Icy Blues

When choosing your wedding colors, you might take into consideration where you'll be holding wedding venue and reception venue. If it's upscale and classy, then choosing colors appropriate to that venue is a must. You can do research on Wedding Color Etiquette when  putting together your colors for this type of affair.

If you're having a Garden Wedding, then choosing colors suited to compliment the setting should be considered. Most of these Garden Theme Weddings tend to take place outside, with nature all around, so colors which will fit this occasion should be chosen. Can you imagine having a wedding outside with the colors of silver, gold, or grey?

The important thing to consider when going with a themed wedding is to make sure all colors blend and are cohesive. You don't want to have soft winter colors mixed with the colors of a psychedelic 60's theme wedding. It would take away for the seriousness of your wedding, not to mention give everyone a headache.

So whether you've chosen your colors based on a favorite color, or you've chose them due to a season, or simply you chose them just because, make sure everything meshes well. You want your wedding to be the talk of the town and not the laughing stock at the next comedy show.
