Thrusting your hands in the early morning soil, is a peaceful and enchanting experience. The border of the garden has no limits to show educational values. Even if you think that you're just showing a child how to plant, it is more than that to them. There is always special value in a child's eye when they get to learn off of their own parent.
Growing a vegetable or a fruit from a seed is like that of your child. You planted them as a seed and watched them grow. The anticipation of getting a fruit off of the steam for them is very satisfying. If they helped from the very beginning they know that the fruit of their labor is a reward. With their help this will show them discipline, hard work, and knowledge.
Encouraging them to participate in gardening might help them more than you might realize. They will have honest care about a project that they are doing with you.
Let them take charge, invite them to shop for the seeds and tools that you might not have. If you do not have a designated spot for your garden, you can let them pick out the location. Including them in your activities might not be the easiest way to get things done. But trust me, they will remember that you took time to include them.
No matter the type of child you might have, gardening will teach them so much. Not to mention showing them how to grow their own food. Children have very simple ways about them. They know in there hearts what is right. And a lot of children now what to be "Green". They want to preserve what we have managed to destroy. If we can encourage them to learn how to garden they will keep that with them for a life time.
A garden in any lawn is like the soul of a person. It shows how the gardener's life is. If the garden is tightly and neat of weeds and insects, it shows that this soul is trying to live better in there life. Someone who might have a garden that seems to lack the love and luster of being taken care of, might slide by through life. Not every circumstance is the same. But starting the foundation of our children with the simplicity of a home grown garden will start their life in what ever direction you show them.
