Poetry is something you really can't explain. What you learn as a young child may be true at that time period, but when your older it changes everything. Many things change in life and the understanding of poetry is one of them.
When your a child, schools teach you that poems are just a set of words that rhyme. Rhyme after rhyme you write and in the end there isn't really any emotion or feelings behind it, just a list of rhyming words. You feel happy about what you have completed but realize that it isn't as good as a little poetry book you read last night. Then, without further ado, your perspective of poetry changes with a whole different movement.
Shifting from rhyming words to powerful, meaningful, emotional, poems is never easy. As life goes on, you grow up and things happen in life that you can never explain how you feel. All the emotions you feel are never released into the known world. All those emotions that swirl around in you heart, mind, and soul, just get so trapped and you almost explode. Your heart tells you one thing while your mind and soul speak another. Then, one day an assignment in school requires you write a poem. That's when it all seems better.
Poetry eases your emotions. When you write that poem and read it over and over, life seems to unravel itself. For the first time in many years, you feel free. As you find the comfort and joy of writing poetry, you see life differently from where you once saw it. When you write poetry you feel something that feels so right about it. The feeling is so strong you have to write all about it or you just feel weird. Poetry becomes part of your life. Easing your emotions and giving you answers from within yourself that you never would of known is how i see poetry.
Poetry can be from emotions that are bad or good. One day sitting in a open patch of forest, you may write how peaceful and calm you feel or about your surroundings. You could also just wonder around and come across a beautiful flower with morning dew forming on its orange petals and explain the smell in the air. Other than good and peaceful, you might have been feeling down from a death in the family and just sit and let the words flow onto the paper. Soon enough, the poem of emotions after the death may help you get by and move on a bit, feel better, but never forget.
So strong with emotion, never can you find any type writing more powerful than poetry. It can explain feelings and life or just moments you want to capture forever. Life is full of long paths and journeys with many speed bumps in the way. Overcoming everything in life is hard but there are always ways of falling for the worst. If there are paths leading to a bad life there are paths leading to great lives. Going the right way is never easy but throughout the time there are people and things to help you stay on that good path. Poetry is more than just words, it has emotion and meaning. It can cure any bad feelings or help you along in life. If you can accept it, poetry can be your life's savior.
As you see, life goes on and you grow up. Poetry over time changes in your life to the point where it can't really be explained. As a child it's a list of rhyming words but as you get older, it becomes a savior and a free guide in life. Poetry is more than what it appears to be.
