The Chicken Pax Romana ended late last night.
One thousand years of poultry peace
Lay shattered on the ground.
All because of shiftless Ned, son of Farmer Brown,
Who failed to feed the chickens
Their evening meal of grain.
One thousand years ago, or more,
The chicken wars did end.
Both sides stopped their fighting:
They set their weapons down.
They signed the Tyson Treaty
Bringing sweet peace to our town.
The fighting,long and brutal,
Beyond all memory,
Ended with but two requests.
The fowls' demands were this:
Mankind eats eggs, not chickens,
And chickens get fresh grain.
Two times,...every day.
A thousand glorious years passed by;
Peace ruled breakfast and then dinner.
Mankind ate eggs not chickens:
And Chickens got their grain.
Until the night in question,
When Ned wrecked everything.
This morning Brown was slaughtered,
And so was foolish Ned.
It's only just beginning.
It's better left unread.
The loss that lazy lad unleashed
When he failed to feed the chickens.

Once upon a sultry
Summer day
I set out to
Do naught but play.
But just as I had
Settled in
There started out
An awful din.
In the kitchen they wait.
Soaped up and ready for polishing.
They will not wash themselves.
