The main reasons couples are unfaithful.

The act of cheating is an experience that no one should have to experience. The bond of love that takes months, years and decades to build is often damaged by one act of passion that sometimes may not last for more than a minute. So, why are people willing to risk years of love on one moment?

In order to understand why cheating happens we must first understand what makes love so powerful. Love's power comes from the sense of understanding, support and security. Love at its strongest point consists of these three experiences. Understanding is the first step that provides the energy to love. It is this experience that shows the foundation of ideals are similar or the same. The next of the three is support. As we develop and take on our life journey we realize our individuality. In learning this individuality human realize one important realization. A person won't be accepted if he stands alone. So the natural desire is to want someone who will not only understand you but support and stand by you in your journey. Once you experience understanding and support the last piece of the puzzle is to feel safe. Security allows you to further express yourself and not feel isolated or unwanted. It allows you to fully open up to your mate. Love is the highest level of a person’s ability to be comfortable.

People tend to forget the importance of maintaining these experiences, because as the relationship progress they think understanding is the sharing of the same ideas or ideals. *Understanding is the molding of two different ideals that produces the same idea. So instead of working with their current partner they begin to search for another person to experience one or all of the three "experiences". Many times this search is only to find coming ground on one particular experience or subject.

These three experiences represent a chain. This chain is only as strong as its weakest link. If you don't have understanding then you don't have anything. Understanding, support, and security are not just things we want in life they're pieces that we need. So, how is it possible that after spending some many years to build a relationship people are willing to give it all up for one moment?

The need for understanding, support, and security is like a drug. If you don't have it then you need that fix. The fix for a woman is different for a man. As mentioned in "Women Love Words and Men Love Actions", women satisfy this fix with the feeling that they'll gain this experience with someone else. The belief is what they're looking for. It's said that women cheat emotionally, because their search for that fix takes place in their mind far before it's outwardly seen. Now, as for a man, their fix is satisfied with the immediate feeling of security. Even though this security is false, men relate security with the ability to relax or not worry. Unlike women, their fix is not the thought of finding the big three with someone else but more like finding a supplement for what they already have. Which brings the saying that a man detaches sex form love because most of the time he's not looking to leave home. (Woman and/or family)
