On that trying day
Mattathais brave
Sliced their throats
Sending them to their grave
There is only one God
He cried so bold
Which sparked ablaze
A bloody revolt
Judas his son
Led an army strong
Against the evil Greeks
Slashing with blade and prong
Victory, victory
Holy Jerusalem cried
The temple is cleansed
We no longer will hide
Eight days hither
Re-dedication they bade
By the brave Maccabees
Their lives down they laid
Eight days lit
The candles did stay
The oil did not dry
Not until that final day
We worship one God
Zeus is not he
We are forever his people
And we always shall be
