How do I know that God exists?

Proof of God's Divine Existence is to be found in every caring act exhibited in humanity.  The fact that the world population is not destroyed by nuclear explosions and fallout is to be considered nothing short of a miracle of God. Any work that preserves life validates the existence of God.  Conversely, any work creating harm raises doubt about God.  The important fact to hold on to is:  God is not to blame for negative human belief,  behavior and actions.

When one is no longer in existent, others will continue existence. Hopefully, Godlike qualities (therefore works) will manifest themselves from generation to generation.  These good works will honor God.  Questions such as this topic will become less necessary to answer.
Good works, unfortunately, are insufficient proof of the existence of God.  Contrarily, they create doubt by exposition of true human nature.  For example, behaviors motivated by philanthropy demand recognition in the form of ego satisfaction.  One must only think of a soldier diving on a live hand grenade to save his buddies.  While it is nice of him to do this, his thought of being considered a hero in death is powerfully motivating.  So much so that soldiers may compete to see who can jump first.

Altruism, on the other hand, demands completely anonymous behavior on the part of the practitioner.  This is not natural.  This is supernatural and proof of God’s existence.  The sad fact is that altruistic behavior is rarely witnessed.  God’s gift of Christ’s crucifixion (whether or not one believes) is the supreme manifestation of altruism and is the example to be followed.

Whether God exists in humans or not is a matter of choice and conscience.  Sincerely wanting the will of God is not a normal human characteristic.  Self-interest creates the barrier between the will of man and that of God.  Paradoxically, man’s will is not good for man; whether or not one is willing to admit the fact.   Man does not know what is best for man; therefore blindly following God is service of the best interest of His children.

When a person expresses and truly wishes for “thy will be done” he gives up his desires to the control of a power beyond his understanding. This quantum leap of faith, while hard to do, guarantees all actions will result in the greater good of all.

The nature of man is proof that man is not God.  The nature of God made real in human behavior is proof of God’s existence.  While it is impossible to become truly divine in this life, efforts at becoming so are worth the loss in doubt gained at seeing God’s love being made manifest in us.  “You ask me how I know he lives,” you say?  “He lives within my heart,” I say.
