Like, totally, ok, let's settle down for a good old fashioned cheerleading movie. You may want to allow your boyfriends and husbands a pass on this one, although you can entice them to watch them with you because the movies have cute cheerleaders in them, right? Being a cheerleader as a youth, I am prone to watch any cheerleader movie that comes out. My best friend (also an ex-cheerleader) and I watch them together to ensure that they are doing real cheerleadig mounts, dances and moves. It is a disgrace to make a cheerleader movie without the knowledge of cheerleading movements, dances and mounts done properly. BRING IT ON - Starring Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku, rated PG-13. This is the ultimate cheerleading movie dealing with cheerleading rivalry. Yes, cheerleading rivalry does exist. I enjoyed this movie because it represented an aspect of cheerleading that many know nothing about - cheerleading competitions. Cheerleading competitions are fierce and include rigorous routines with gymnastics, danceing, cheers, chants, and mounts. Most real competitions can be viewed on the sports channel at certain times of the year and if you watch them, you will see how difficult cheerleading can be. This movie sets up a rivalry between two schools who are going to compete against one another but in the meantime, the squad struggles with competition within their own team. The accurracy of the movements, mounts and dances are very well-done. The directors definitely did their homework. GRADE: A+
BRING IT ON AGAIN - Starring Anne Judson-Yager and Bree Turner, rated PG-13. The sequel to "Bring It On" has a different take on a cheerleader issue - snobbiness. Cheerleaders are routinely labeled as snobby and pretentious although that is not always true. A less popular cheerleader decides she has had enough of a certain cheerleader's attitude and decides to create her own squad, comprised of kids who may not fit the typical mold of a cheerleader. They prove that as long as your heart is in it - you can succeed. The accurracy is still great in this one but they have added more of a storyline rather than creating wow performances. GRADE: A-
BRING IT ON: ALL OR NOTHING - Starring Hayden Panettiere and Tarah Paige, rated PG-13. This sequel to
