Is the Catholic Church protesting too much about 'The Da Vinci Code'?

Those who are devout Christians will find it hard to accept that their church and the beliefs upon which they have built the rest of their lives have been false. People would become emotionally confused and depressed, leading to fear, violence, destruction of everything around them. This fear and confusion is what the church, and other religious controlling groups rely on. When people are afraid to face situations or facts which will change their lives beyond all comprehension people prefer to ignore the truth, and relax in the bosom of the false protective untruth.

For years, people have tried to bring to the general public's attention the idea that perhaps Christianity is not what people think it it. The church has ignored this, hoping that this would lead to people forgetting about the alternative viewpoints. This is why the Catholic, and other Christian Churches have rarely protested against the many books that have abounded in the bookshops.

But the Catholic Church protested against the Da Vinci Code because they knew it was a work of fiction which had some accurate facts within it!

From past experience the Catholic Church should not find a book showing an alternative view, a threat, yet this time it publicised that it is. Why? They should have protested against other books which were non-fiction, but they didn't. Could it be because a lot of evidence was given to support the various different authors views and the Church would have had problems rebutting them? Perhaps they said to themselves, better to ignore the books rather than enlighten the public further to alternative ways of viewing Christianity, and its history.

When the Catholic Church is prepared to argue in court against a factual, but opposing, non-fiction book on Christianity I will start to believe the Church knows something I don't. Until then, my own quest for accurate spiritual knowledge will continue.
