Keys to self-empowerment

As human beings we all seek support from others. It is hard to live without some form of encouragement or praise but we all go through times in life where our family or friends may not be right beside us as we still have to find the empowerment to go on.

We all have that available to us, no matter what happens because we can become our own empowerment.  Learning to tap into our own, individual wells of empowerment can be one of the best things we can do for ourselves in life.  Below are a few simple things we can do to become our own empowerment and you can add anything else you find helpful in helping yourself.  Approach this idea with an open mind and a willingness to improve yourself and he results can be amazing.

Step 1

Take a little time to spend with yourself and use positive thinking strategies. Make a list of good things about yourself or things you have done. Put aside any negative thoughts. Everyone has done some positive things and you just need to remember what they are.

Step 2

Make a list of goals. Number them one through five and leave a space after each one where you can write in the date you completed it. Have some of your goals be long term and some be short term. When you have finished one, add a new one to the bottom of the list, continuing in number order. This lets you have a visual tool to see good things you are doing and achievements you are making. These completed goals can be used in other positive thinking exercises.  When you reach a place in your life where you are not sure what you want to be doing, pull out your list of goals and start working on them.  In times where you feel depressed, motivation towards achieving goals can be one of the most powerful tools to getting back on your feet.

Step 3

Combat negative influences in your life. Whenever you are faced with a comment or thought or anything that does not build up your self esteem, return to that list of positive things you are doing or have done. Refuse to think in negative terms. Build positive goals for yourself and think in good terms.  Develop comments that describe you in good terms such as "smart, funny, creative, etc".  Have these comments ready to use and practice saying them with confidence.
