Poetry: The true meaning of Christmas

by Elena dal Friuli

Created on: December 11, 2009

Gone is the time for goblins and ghosts
Along with the time for thankful hosts.
The time for Christmas now draws near
Oh come all of ye whom we hold dear.

‘Tis during this season that our hearts rejoice
In the true meaning of Christmas by the still small voice:

It was long ago, in a small Jewish town,
That people came from all around.
They came to see a small babe in a manger
Though still unknown, He was not a stranger.

He would be known as Christ our Savior,
The Son of God, of unspotted behavior:

He came to earth that we saved may be
If we follow in His path, He sets us free.
He gave us all He had to give
He did it all that we may live.

The true meaning of Christmas is simple and true
He came to earth for me and you.
