When you take on the job of becoming the “leader of the free world”, the Commander in Chief, aka, the President of the United States, then, you are expected to lead, and, inspire others to follow you. That is what you convinced the voters that you could do during that long election campaign. That was a part of your promotional plan, which, no doubt included heart-pounding, inspirational, and upbeat speeches.
Once in office, and, for the next four years, your job as President is to inspire the people to believe in your honesty, your heartfelt efforts to do the best job, and, your knowledge in problem solving. The time for hype is past, and, the political campaign speeches are gone. It is now the time to prove that your inspirational messages were on track and legitimate. No one expects that the President will know everything, but, he has to inspire a certain belief that he has the resources to back him up, and, the right people to help him do the job.
A President must inspire a certain degree of hope and pride in his people. Like it or not, nationalism and patriotism are ingrained in all of us, and need to be fostered. Pride in your country can go a long way, in the long run to further such important causes such as the economy and the social order.
The President must inspire the feeling of patriotism, not regret, or shame, or embarrassment at being who we are. Feelings of dislike or distrust in our country do not lead to the need to help to support it.
Without inspiration, and consequently, confidence, the economy falters, the stock market is affected, and the ripple effect of decline reaches down to every level. The President’s certainty that “everything will be alright”, goes a long way to inspire people to spend, and hire, which is the first step to recovery.
In times of war, the President must be the inspiring, assuring voice of the country. Without that reassurance that we are on track, doing the right thing, and making a difference in the world, the military would be devoid of soldiers, and all causes, lost. He must be straight forward, and have a definite, and confidant plan.
Above all, the President must inspire the belief in the American people that he is honest and unwavering in his love for the country, the respect for the history and values of the United States, and, high regard for the office that he was elected too. People are not inspired by deceit, contrivances, or flim flam. Whether or not he will succeed in being inspirational, in the long run, depends entirely on how honest, open, and transparent he is willing to be.
