Songs: Getting over you

LIFE NEVER FORGOTTEN

Time lies heavy in this heart of mine

As I look into the river, my thoughts flow gently past.

The Alyn carries memories back to my soul,

Of a time long since spoken with grief so vast.

(Chorus)

Let me walk down to the river, and open my heart,

To dear reflections of those who perished.

Late September '34 was a such a sombre time,

But memories live on of those so cherished.

My grandfather once cast his faithful line

On this spot where I now stand and ponder.

The memories still clear like the peaceful river

And thoughts of the past inspire me to wonder.

(Chorus)

His life was cut short on that fateful day

In the mine where he worked for offerrings so slim

To a land which offered respite and freedom

Entombed in a nightmare ever so grim.

(Chorus)

As the light shines on this peaceful river,

I know he is forever by my side.

In the place he loved more than anywhere

Thoughts filling me with pride deep inside.

(Chorus)

Here I stand with my son, rod and reel in hand.

We cast our line into the shadowy glades,

Recollecting bygone days of a life long since gone

As the peaceful water forever cascades.

(Chorus)
