Many people feel that free advertising isn’t as effective as larger and more expensive methods such as television advertisements, however this couldn’t be further from the truth; the best form of advertisement is completely free and that is word of mouth, so let’s look at some of the other methods of free advertising:
* Word Of Mouth – as mentioned above this is one of the most effective methods of advertising. Word of mouth is when a previous customer recommends your business to their family and friends; this could then lead on to future sales from them. People are more likely to use your business if it has been recommended by a friend or family member than if they had just watched a television advert showing what it is that you offer – this is because if you are recommended it means you have provided a good product or service which they can rely on, whereas a television advert doesn’t give a potential customer this reassurance.
* Internet – there are many ways to promote your business online, but why choose to advertise this way? Well with the use of the internet you can gain access to a huge market which consists of many different people all around the world, this almost guarantees you an increase in sales and profit. Building your own website to offer your products or services is the first choice for online advertising, however you can create a blog or join a community to promote your services – this includes being registered in search engines such as Google.
* Signatures – If you are a member of a forum or website then you can promote your business simply by sending a link to your website, your company’s name or your telephone number in your signature – this way each post you make will allow you to subtly display this information. A great way to get people to contact you is if you provide valuable information to a community which is related to your business, for example if you are a design business you should comment with relative information on a website or forum which specializes in art or design. This tactic can also be used in emails.
* Charity – offering your products or services to charity can earn you a good reputation as well as providing you with free advertisement as they will undoubtedly thank you for your work – this is also made public. Doing your part for charity benefits everyone – they get a product or service to use, your business gains some reputation
