The triangular responsibility for student development is shared by the stakeholders - the teacher, the student and the parents. Even though all the three are involved in it, the unenviable task of carrying the greater burden lies with the teacher only. He definitely won't mind doing it, as long as the other two partners contribute their shares in reasonable measures. His expectation here would be more from the parents than from the student himself, for the simple reason that he has a regular contact and so a reasonable control over his student which often is missing with the parents. So he is naturally more concerned about how best to bring the parents properly into the loop of responsibility without appearing to be too demanding on their time. There could be other important things demanding your time. Can you ever say that your child's education is not important for you? Include these few minutes also in your daily priority schedule. You won't regret later.
Do impress upon your child the crucial importance of the teacher for his/her education. Traditional time-tested values concerning the teacher's significance has to be impressed upon the those young impressionable minds. If in ancient cultures like the Indian culture, even kings and emperors bowed before their teachers called “Gurus” while the commoners prostrated at the feet of the teachers, it is not for nothing that they did it. It symbolizes utmost respect and surrender to the will of the teacher who then takes the complete responsibility for his student's development. Nowadays such extreme versions of prostrating before a teacher is not required, but at least a courteous bow before the teacher is a definite minimum requirement expected from the student. A student may not learn even this basic courtesy unless advised and trained on these lines by his parents.
Do motivate your child to pay close attention to the teacher's instructions as well as his advice. This will get immense benefits for the child not only in academic matters but also in other non-academic matters like selecting
