Decorating on a budget allows you to pull out your most creative ideas. It is a challenge you should welcome.  When it comes to buying furniture on a budget, there are a few points that can make your search more successful

Flexibility

When shopping on a budget, you will need to be flexible with your design plan. Obviously, you need to find furniture that fits in the space you have available.  Your flexibility comes into play with color choices, fabric types and designs, and the style of furniture you would like to purchase. This is a good area in which to demonstrate your ability to creatively find versatility in the pieces of furniture you find.

Pursuit

When shopping for a furniture on a budget, you will need to do more than walk into a furniture store and make your selection.  You will need to pursue bargain prices.  Check out estate sales, yard sales, consignment stores and possibly even some vintage shops. While antiques may not be in your budget, vintage stores sometimes have small tables or chairs that are part of a mismatched set at reduced prices. You can also find bargain priced furniture at a “going out of business” sale.  Seasonal sales also provide good deals.  You simply have to search for the sales and best prices.

Creativity

Keep in mind that one piece of furniture can serve more than one purpose or can be incorporated into the décor of more than one specific room.  When checking out furniture store sales, look in their bedroom displays or dining room displays to see if there is a table, chair or chest that you could use in your living room. When browsing through a yard sale or moving sale, consider all of the possible uses for various pieces of furniture.

Simplicity

You can design a beautiful, functional living room on a small budget by creatively selecting the furniture you put in the room. Eclectic decorating is fine; however, you have to be careful not to create a feeling of chaos in the room.  Include enough furniture to make the room comfortable for you, your family, and your guests. Keep the accessories in the room to a minimum. Buying furniture that provides storage space is a bonus.

With a little versatility, some comparison shopping, creativity and patience in your search, you can buy living room furniture on a small budget. You can design a room that you will enjoy spending time in, knowing that you did it all without damaging your budget.
