Is it over yet?
I don't condone Tiger Woods' actions when it comes to marital fidelity. Of course not. What allegedly happened was not a good thing, and it does not cast one of sports' most dominant athletes in a good light. But the fact is, Tiger will be just fine.
Does anybody seriously believe this will haunt Tiger for the rest of his career? How about the idea that sponsors will drop him and cost him millions of dollars? That all seems impossible to me. All that Tiger has ever been known for is his ability to play golf. Sports fans will still be thrilled by Woods' prowess on a golf course, and a major title or two will erase all of this from our memories. (Well, maybe not all, but I doubt that the first thing we think of when we think of Tiger will be a tree and an angry wife.)
So if Tiger isn't going to be damaged by the amount of scrutiny given him in the wake of his shortcomings, what is all of this attention going to do? If it continues the way it started, the only person who will never be able to outrun this is Mrs. Woods. Really, this is the first thing we've ever found out about Elin Nordgren aside from her marital status. Before this she was just Tiger's wife. But now how do we envision this woman?
Some people envision Elin swinging a golf club at Tiger Woods. These people clearly do not understand just what is being alleged in that. The reports that Nordgren hit Woods with a golf club have been refuted by anybody with more than casual knowledge of the incident that sparked all of this attention, but it's still an image many people have. Now, regardless of how small a person is, if they're swinging a golf club at somebody else they are trying to severely injure or kill them.
If people don't believe she attempted to hurt or kill her husband, they believe she took the club to his Escalade in a way only Jack Nicholson could understand. Again, this is not a good light to cast on somebody. For somebody to get angry enough to bash a car's windows with a golf club, they would have to be a relatively violent person to begin with.
All the while, with people speculating that this woman is anything from homicidal to completely full of rage, tabloid news is putting her marriage through its paces. Oh, and there are reporters paying such close attention to their home that reports this morning emerged of an ambulance being called.
