There really is no better time to re-assess your priorities than in the New Year, because the year is fresh and untainted by bad luck and unfortunate circumstances. If 2009 was bad for you, then there is no way 2010 could be any worse, and so you can be positive about the future. You can let go of whatever went wrong in the preceding year and get on with planning towards a brighter future. A New Year gives you the opportunity to consider your career and education options; your relationships with other people; your lifestyle; and your overall health and well-being. If you are unhappy with any of these particular aspects the New Year can be a good time to change things.
Perhaps you are stressed out because you work long hours and don’t make enough time for friends and family. This could be affecting your physical health, as it may be harder to control your weight; you might find it difficult to sleep and relax; you may be constantly coming down with colds. It could also impact your mental health, leaving you feeling depressed, irritable and anxious. If this is the situation you find yourself in the New Year could be a good time to re-assess whether your career is more important to you than your relationships with others, as well as your health.
If you are unhappy with your job then the New Year may offer you the perfect excuse to consider going back to school. By obtaining more qualifications you will have more to offer potential employers and a wider range of occupations to choose from. You can even find a career that you enjoy doing rather than simply working in order to earn wages to pay the bills.
Maybe you already have the perfect work-life balance and actually enjoy your job, but there still may be aspects of your life worth improving upon. You may be overweight because you eat too much junk food and don’t get enough exercise, and thus decide that your lifestyle could do with altering. If you are extremely inactive, preferring to lie on the sofa with a good book than going out for a run, you could see the New Year as a good time to change. You may want to lose a few pounds so that you look better and so your health and fitness improves. You may decide to cut out junk food and concentrate on eating wholegrain and organic foods with the intention of leading a healthier lifestyle.
There are very few people who don’t have some part of their life they would like to be different, and if you feel that you would like to re-assess your priorities in order to make changes to your life, the New Year is the perfect time to do so.
