While Hollywood tends to be identified with the liberal-left and more specifically the Democratic Party (GDP) of the United States there are plenty of famous Republican actors there. In fact, historically the list is very long and impressive.
In classic Hollywood, Cary Grant was a Republican of longstanding who fundraised for Republican Presidential candidate Wendell Wilkie in 1940 and introduced Betty Ford at the 1976 Repulican convention.
Irene Dunne was a very active supporter of the Republican Party, campaigning for Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956 then doing the same for Richard Nixon in 1960. She later supported Ronald Reagan's two runs for Governor of California and his two presidential campaigns.
Gary Cooper was from a Republican family and he actively campaigned against FDR in 1944. Jimmy Stewart was a Republican as was Charlton Heston and John Wayne. Shirley Temple became one as an adult and was appointed an Ambassador by a Republican administration. Edward Arnold (Meet John Doe), James Arness (Gunsmoke), Ward Bond (It's A Wonderful Life) were all Republicans.
Clint Eastwood remains one. Arnold Schwarznegger and his partners in his Planet Hollywood enterprise, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis are all longstanding Republicans. Each has a long history of endorsing Republican candidates and donating to the party. Schwarznegger, of course became Republican governor of California.
Robert Duvall is also a proud Republican as is Chuck Norris. Stephen Baldwin, Victoria Jackson (Saturday Night Live), Ricky Schroder (Silver Spoons, NYPD Blue), Melissa Hasselbeck (Survivor, The View), Pat Sajak are all Republican stalwarts.
Dwight Schultz (The A-Team, Start Trek TNG) is proudly on the Republican party right as something of a hawk on foreign policy.
Heather Locklear is among the list of very beautiful and glamorous women within Republican ranks which includes Janine Turner (Northern Exposure), Shannon Doherty (90210), and Bo Derek. Connie Stevens is long-time donor to the GOP and its candidates.
Fred Grandy (The Love Boat) was Republican Congressman for the state of Iowa for 4 consecutive terms (1986-1995). Ben Stein of the game show Win Ben Stein's Money and Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a former Nixon speechwriter and a longtime Republican. Fred Thompson (Law & Order) was Republican Congressman for the state of Tennessee.
Pro-lifer Patricia Heaton (Everybody Love Raymond) is identified as a Republican as is Kelsey Grammer.
