"Swan's Crossing" premiered in 1992 and had a short-lived existence, only having shot and aired 65 episodes. It was a half hour daily teen soap opera that launched the career of Sarah Michelle Gellar. It was cheesy fun chronicling the lives of local teenagers in the fictional town of Swan's Crossing. SMG played the conniving, rich girl Sydney Rutledge. Oh how she was born to play those types of girls, so proven in the hit film, "Cruel Intentions".
Another young starlet who started off on "Swan's Crossing" was Mira Sorvino. Honestly I cannot remember her character, but she gets my respect for being on the show. For those of you who follow C-list actresses, then you may be familiar with the works of Susan Ward, who also did a few episodes. She then went on to star in the daytime soap "Sunset Beach", as well as starring in the feature "The In Crowd".
Swan's Crossing was a program that marks my childhood. It helps spark memories of those long ago adolescent years. With the popular craze of releasing old television shows on DVD, it is my sad responsibility to inform you "Swan's Crossing" has yet to be released. This is an abomination. I feel this show had a large enough fan base to make it a profitable undertaking. I'd like to find out how many copies of "Alf: Season One" has sold, seriously.
The big hair, the colorful outfits and how can I not mention the frequent food fights, are all reasons "Swan's Crossing" falls under what I would consider good television programming. It was wholesome and entertaining, both characteristics which lack in most teen shows today. It is definitely on my favorites list, in between "Kids Incorporated" and "Saved By The Bell". Let's make it available on DVD, it not for everyone, at least just for me.
