In the world of Information Science and Technology (IS &T) and also computer science, programming, new software languages and their development etc form a very important phase. Several program analysts and research engineers are always devoted to this and spend a great deal of time and effort to generate new innovative ideas in software and language development. Programming language trends have been undergoing various developments and many changes over the last few years.

From the earlier days when FORTRAN and COBOL were the leading computer languages, several interesting and new programming languages have been evolving over the years. Most of these developments take place with the end-user and user friendly practical applications in mind. All these developments have also been found to generate a lot of employment and new job potential.

Until recently the computer language called "C" was used many program developers.

Currently C++ has also come into vogue; along with Java and Java Script. Visual Basic, SAP, ERP etc are also new programming trends which have found many applications in big corporate organizations. SAP especially is also creating several job opportunities for technical graduates and management professionals.

These new trends in program development are being preferred by developers due to their flexibility for being used with different computer operating systems. User friendly and menu driven programs also find much better acceptance among important customers leading to their easy marketability as well as capacity for profit generation.

A reference to computer journals and magazines shows that they often publish information about which type of programming languages may be popular in the coming years. This information is published after a good deal of studies and therefore quite reliable.

As computing speeds are increasing and new software will be developed to perform many new functions, it is better to keep ahead with these trends for computer engineers and end-users.

At present it looks like Java and C++, SAP etc are all used by a large number of developers and program analysts in various companies, with new innovations and applications taking place continuously.

It is significant to note that this field is one in which changes take place almost every day. These changes evolve and come into use much faster than some other fields of study and so one's best guide-lines will come from a regular reference to appropriate computer journals. This will help developers and research engineers with new and updated information on the latest trends in program development across the world in several countries.
