New Years Eve is the one day of the year where fun is all around. Everyone is looking forward to saying goodbye to one year and welcoming a new one in hopes of better health, finances, childcare and my personal favorite: setting New Year's Resolutions. Sadly, I must admit I am guilty of setting a few myself each year just to watch them fail, however, I enjoy the fun and entertainment with friends as we set around and think of some for each other to work on. So here is what we do.
1. Plan a date and time for a party or little get together when we would all be available (i.e. off work, out of school, time away from the children or whatever necessary).
2. Decide who is going to bring what snacks. It could be chips, soda, candy, peanuts, vegable and dip or even fruit. In fact, the more variety, the better we have always found because some people are health nuts while others tend to eat whatever is placed in front of them. Do remember to set a price limit though so no one feels like they are contributing more than others.
3. Costumes - sometimes we even wear costumes for fun just as a way to get into the festivities of a party scene. We figure if we are going to have a party why not dress up a little and enjoy each others' different taste of style. Plus, lets admit it, some costumes look better on one person than another and gives us ideas for more parties bound to come throughout the year with these same group of friends.
4. Creativity - Each person has to come with at least one resolution they would like to work on for the new year to come. Then as a group we like to discuss whether we feel it is suitable for that person. For instance, have they tried in years past and failed or already succeeded or is it an unlikely resolution that they would even put effort into? Honestly, in the end we can keep our resolution or change it but by discussing them together, we feel we are choosing the best one for us and then we know we have our friends behind us throughout the year to check on how we are doing.
5. Sleeping arrangments - Most important step to plan for the night in case drinking is involved at the party. We make sure there are Designated Drivers assigned or the responsible party guest has already decided on sleeping over. The last thing we want is for the new year to begin with an accident.
With these five simple ideas set and planned the party can begin for my friends and I. I encourage you to try them on for size coming up soon at the end of the year and maybe a new tradition of New Year's fun will be yours to keep. Always remember to relax, laugh and enjoy the company.
