Gift cards are excellent presents during special occasionslike Christmas or even during birthdays and other personal celebrationsbecause the recipients have some sort of freedom what to buy with their gift cards. Buying a gift card entails minimal efforts; just as giving it requires not much effort. However, buying a gift card nowadays appears to be an easy transaction, but buyers of gift cards are warned of the rampant scams involving gift cards.

People are reminded of the following tips when buying a gift card.

Gift cards buyers are discouraged from buying a gift card from online auction Web sites. Buyers are warned of the fact that auction Websites are the major source of stolen, counterfeit and used gift cards. More often not, gift cards that are being sold in these sites are indeed cheap, but beware because it is a sure sign that the gift card may be are counterfeit, stolen or used.

Buyers are encouraged to buy gift cards from very store issuing the gift card as this is a sure source of secured gift cards. Buying gift cards from other sources may not be the right move as scams are becoming rampant in these days. Buying gift cards from the right source will protect the buyers of their rights and money since they can never run after those scammers.

Gift cards buyers are advised to buy gift cards that are displayed publicly in racks. They are reminded that gift cards displayed in racks of retail stores may not be safe anymore because they are exposed to the public. Scammers have actually access to the gift card being displayed in the racks. Therefore, buying a gift card in racks of retail stores is strongly discouraged since the gift cards' PIN number may already have been copied. What more, store employees may also be involved in the scam.

People are also encouraged when buying a gift card that they must carefully examine both the front and back of the gift card. They are advised to examine it before buying the gift card. When the PIN number is exposed or if the card may appear to have been tampered with, then they are advised to return the gift card to the rack and get a new one. As always, it is now easy to copy information of the card using high-tech scanners.

In buying a gift card, people are advised to take extra care so that when a person being given the gift card uses it to shop online or in stores he can be assured that the card has a value.
