When The First Mistake Commits A Second
Like rocks wrapped 'round my ankles
A mistake weighed me down
Not sure how I let it
Not sure how it ballooned
But one error just grew and grew
As it gained intensity
I took care to spread it all around
From shoulder to shoulder
From hip to hip
Until it encompassed my being one piece and all
With an aching back and trembling legs
With heart heavy and throbbing mind
I began to buckle and to fold
I knew I could no longer carry it
So once again with care I spread it all around
I shifted this breath siphoning, life suctioning weight from this crumpling frame
Passed it to others whom I believed stronger than Me
A team of support, never withheld and freely given
My greatest treasure - friends and family
Standing in the background, drunk with relief
Watching those others much stronger than me
I galloped off with my sack emptied
So easy, I wandered on carefree
With nary a doubt I didn't glance back
Such freedom had I
I didn't sip the nectar's but slurped
I didn't nibble or connoisseur
But ate with insatiable relish
Grabbing, hoarding all I was able to consume
My heart surpassed lightheartedness and bore full steam
After growing comfortable in my contentment
I took that shoulder check and viewed the wake behind
My beloved treasures were not standing tall and firm
Instead bent over, lost and frail
Bewildered, I did not comprehend
Amidst my confusion they still smiled, however, weakly and lovingly at me
And this is what they had to say ..........
We didn't mind carrying your load
We only wished to help
We divided that burden of yours for sake of manageability
We reached our limits, but we would hold
When we looked up and found you gone
Twas only your portion we had no more further room to load.
